What is “Candle Curing” & Why is it Important?

Candle curing is the period of time from when a candle is poured to when it is finally ready for its first burn. Certain wax types require a specific curing period to ensure optimal performance.

“Vegetable waxes” like soy wax, will always continue to harden their entire life due to them being polymorphic. Crystals form in the wax in response to time and temperature, which leads to a harder wax over time. So burning a candle too soon will result in the candle performing poorly and melting too quickly.

Many people assume mixing the fragrance oil & wax together will create a new substance, but it doesn’t. They don’t chemically react with each other.

Every wax has a different design. When we blend the two, the wax expands when it turns into a liquid, & contracts as it cools into a solid. This is what’s responsible for “wet spots” in the jar of your candles.

The cooling wax also traps the fragrance oil molecules in its structure while turning it into a solid. As the wax hardens, the fragrance oil molecules spread out over time.

So this is what candle curing is about. It’s basically the process of the continuous hardening of wax to disperse fragrance oils evenly throughout the blend.

& that’s why we believe in curing for 1-2 weeks to ensure you get the best out of your candle.
